St Mary’s Church

St Mary’s Church  is’ our church’ having a special place in the hearts of our school families. Along with our school it is at the centre of our community.

It is a grade 1 listed building, originally dating from the 8th century and founded on a monastery which was a centre of stone carving. It was re-modelled and extended in the Early-English style in the 13th century and still retains many features from that period.

Sunday services are held at 10.45 a.m., mainly Eucharist but with a family service monthly. The church is used for services and worship  across the year and pupils contribute not only to school services but to community services too.  Children in school develop themselves as Leaders of Worship and can be seen planning and delivering worship and services .

Our church offers lots of opportunities for our pupils and children in the wider community to further develop their understanding about  Christianity  and understanding through Christianity  in a fun and exciting way .Youth Saints is a popular club held every fortnight where young people  can come together to sing, hear Bible stories, be creative and have lots of fun . School works in partnership with St Mary’s and Youth Saints and with families at home on community events and on social action projects across the year.

Messy Church is held monthly on Sunday afternoons .This focuses on the whole family being involved  in fun and exciting activities and helps to grow faith not only with our pupils but with home and with the wider community .

Open the Book

Our  fabulous friends at church offer us a most fabulous gift –‘Open the Book’ sessions. These sessions bring Bible stories to life with acting, singing, actions and sound effects! They really help our pupils to understand the meaning and messages of the stories  told and how they link to our Christian values  .During lockdown the team  created mini ‘Open The Book’  movies and these were shared with  and enjoyed  by families at home.
